SMART Foundations Course: An introductory course covering the basics of the SMART model including the core Therapist Skills, Tools of Regulation, and an overview of the three threads of the SMART Spiral ; Somatic Regulation, Trauma Processing, and Attachment-building. The course utilizes lecture, clinical video, discussion, and experiential exercises. SMARTmoves offers this course in both an online and in-person format.
SMARTmoves Partners was formed in 2018 to support professional training, consultation and development of Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment (SMART), a powerful, therapeutic healing approach for children, teens and families impacted by maltreatment, emotional neglect and chronic stress within caregiving system and communities. SMART supports youth and families to transform adverse and traumatic experiences through movement, playfulness, connection and a deep held respect for the wisdom of the body in healing. Thanks for joining us!
This course is a prerequisite for all future SMART courses and ongoing consultation.

Advanced Consultation Group: This course solidifies therapists skills and address complex cases by weaving Trauma Processing, Attachment-Building, and Somatic Regulation. Participants will present clinical video of SMART sessions to colleagues and a certified SMART consultant at each meeting. Emphasis is placed on developing effective application of core skills, maps, and tools to assess, treat, reflect, and revise treatment in a manner that effectively weaves all three threads of the SMART model over the arc of a session and treatment as a whole.
Video Reflection builds on therapist capacities for navigating the Somatic Regulation thread and focuses more deeply on Trauma Processing and Attachment-Building threads with awareness of how Somatic Regulation supports this work in the background. Participants will build proficiency in caregiver consultation and psychoeducation to providers in the child's life (teachers, after-school supports, coaches) by using the SMART lens to promote understanding of trauma's unique impact on the specific child's functioning.
Participants interested in obtaining certification will have the opportunity to work on their clinical portfolio necessary for Certification in the SMART Model.
